Illusion, trompe l’oeuil and flashes of the unexpected. Tailored jackets - solid, structured and defined – that abruptly flow into swathes of rouched fabric, lending them the appearance of a dress.

The palette of mostly neutral colours is vigorously offset by inserts of vivid, sometimes neon colour that run along seams, around necklines or spill out of slits, bursts of eye-catching frivolity that subtly subvert the classicism of the ensembles. Relying on strips and panels of sheer fabric that from afar, read as transparent, to create a frame, the collection is able to render structure essentially invisible. Thus, we are presented with dresses that at first give little indication of how they are held in place, jackets that appear to hang by their collars and evening gowns that plunge dramatically, sensuously framing the back and yet mysteriously, hugging the figure at the same time. Elsewhere, ethereal dresses appear to hang, equally improbably, from rigid leather collars, creating a subtle play of power that poses the question of whether it is the woman who is wearing the dress or the dress that is wearing the woman. A juxtaposition of fluidity and the rigour, the bold and the neutral, Millia M’s Summer 2012 collection explores both surrealism and the void, resulting in a clothing that appears, at times, to defy the laws of gravity.
